Thessaloniki: 5 people sentenced to 45.5 years in prison for trafficking foreigners

The 5 members of the ring were smuggling immigrants from Greece to other countries by stacking them in a specially shaped crypt in a tourist coach while another 23 people involved were pretending to be virtual passengers

Thessaloniki’s Court of Appeal for Felonies imposed 45.5 years in prison for each of the five members o the ring accused of smuggling  immigrants from Greece to other countries by stacking them in a specially shaped crypt in a tourist coach.

Those convicted are mostly expatriates and were  led in prison.

A further 23 people were convicted for pretending to be tourist passengers in the coach.

According to court information they were receiving 100 euro each for pretending and filling up the empty coach seats.

The court imposed on each of them a prison sentence of two years and eight months suspended.

Following the investigation the police had discovered 19 Somali migrants stacked in the specially shaped crypt in a tourist coach.

Each of them had paid around 3.000 euro.
