The first test route of the Thessaloniki subway with passengers took place early Thursday morning.

The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, arrived at the Pylaia depot and was informed about the development of the Thessaloniki subway.

Journalists from Thessaloniki had the opportunity to board a Thessaloniki metro train from the “Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos” station and go to the terminal station, at the Pylaia depot.

As announced by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, it is expected to be operational in early 2024.

The main axis of the Thessaloniki metro line will start from the New Railway Station and will reach the Pylaia station.

The train will reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and the goal is to have a train arrive every 90 seconds.

The president of Attiko METRO S.A., Nikos Tachiaos, who informed the journalists about the technical characteristics of the subway operation, spoke of one of the most modern and safest in the world.
