Tom Hanks releases virtual typewriter app for iPad

It is called Hanx Writer and it makes the sounds of an old machine!

Fans of old school keyboards have welcomed Tom Hank’s new app for iPad, called Hanx Writer, which recreates three classic typewriters on screen, allowing people to see and, most importantly… hear them.

According to media reports, the developers worked with the actor, who has a huge collection of vintage typewriters, which he started in the 1970s.

‘I wanted to have the sensation of an old manual typewriter – I wanted the sound of typing if nothing else. It’s like music that spurs along the creative urge. Bang bang clack-clack-clack puckapuckapuckapucka… I wanted the ‘report’ of each letter, each line,’ the famous actor said, adding that the app is a ‘tool, not a toy’.

According to the developers of Hanx Writer, the app which has become the most-downloaded free iPad app on Apple’s App Store, recreates the experience of a manual typewriter, but with the ease and speed of an iPad.
