Tragedy in Turkey: 12 dead and 19 injured after bus plunged into a 30-metre ravine, (video)

Investigations were launched to determine the causes of the accident

Eleven bus passengers were killed when the vehicle crashed near Yozgat province in Turkey late on Sunday night. The bus fell into a ravine, according to Turkish media reports, when the driver of the bus travelling from Sevasteia to Constantinople lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross into oncoming traffic and fall into a 30-meter ravine.

Eleven passengers died at the scene. Another victim succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital. Another 19 passengers sustained injuries, with one of them reportedly in critical condition. A total of 31 passengers were on board the ill-fated bus.

Emergency services, including health, police, gendarmerie, and Earthquake Humanitarian Aid Campaign  AFAD teams, rushed to the scene of the accident as soon as they received notice.

The Governor of Yozgat, Ali Ozkan said “We believe it was an accident caused by carelessness. Further investigations will be carried out to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.”

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced that a judicial investigation into the accident has been launched.
