Tsipras-Merkel-Hollande to convene after all

Brussels’ neutral ground the venue

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of a EU-CELAC summit in Brussels on Wednesday, after speculation throughout Tuesday that the face-to-face talks were not take place given any lack in progress in talks between Athens and its institutional creditors.

Tsipras and his mostly radical leftist government have toned down their rhetoric in the last 48 hours, citing areas where convergence with creditors’ demands is possible. Tsipras on Friday called a draft agreement presented to him by EU Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker as containing “absurd” demands.

However, with the eurozone partners, the ECB and the IMF apparently not budging, the Greek government is trying to seek compromise, even in increments.
