Tsakalotos: We risk a rift with Europe

We should have held referendum earlier

Euclid Tsakalotos, Alternate Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations and a member of the Greece’s negotiating team in the talks with the country’s creditors revealed that the government would have collapsed if it chose to take the deal offered to them by the institutions before the Greek parliament. Speaking to Greek TV station, Skai, Tsakalotos said that the best course of action would have been to hold a referendum a month earlier. He added that Greece is risking a rift with Europe by selecting to hold the referendum. He stressed that he could not support a ‘yes’ verdict if it came out Sunday. He ruled out the possibility of bail-in on Greek deposits.
