Turkey dreams of having more Blue Flag beaches than Greece

Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu announced investment to increase Turkish Blue Flag beaches

Turkey is third in the number of “Blue Flag” exclusively eco-labeled beaches that are awarded by the nongovernmental organization Foundation for Environmental Education.  Beaches are ranked according to water quality, environmental management and safety.

Ranked behind Spain and Greece, the Turkish Environment and Urbanization Ministry is investing some $US193 million to lift its ranking. Currently it has 383 Blue Flag beaches and 21 marinas but wants to become the world leader as part of its 2023 targets to mark the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
