Turkey: Erdogan praises police ‘patience’ as two killed in clashes!

Despite the new deadly clashes, the Turkish leader continues to add fuel to the fire – “Will we perform a ceremony for every death? He died and it’s over,” he said regarding the tragic death of 15 year old Berkin Elvan

Full of cynicism and completely unrepentant, the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has made yet another shocking statement regarding the clashes in his country.

His latest slip was a statement he made during a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara, where he argued that the police has shown “admirable patience” during demonstrations in Istanbul.

It should be noted that Erdogan made these statements following the clashes in Istanbul’s Okmeydani that left two people dead.

In the same callous tone, the Turkish Prime Minister criticized those who wanted to mourn Gezi victim Berkin Elvan, saying the death of the 15-year-old has become “a thing of the past.”

“What is it? They wanted to hold a ceremony to commemorate Berkin Elvan. Will we perform a ceremony for every death? He died and it’s over,” Erdogan said.

Berkin Elvan died in March after spending eight months in a coma after being hit by a police tear gas canister during the Gezi protests last summer.

Yesterday, in Okmeydani, some demostrators were demanding to hold a memorial ceremony for the victims of last week’s Soma mine disaster, as well as Berkin Elvan, before police intervened to disperse the group.
