Typhoon Nuri about to hit Japanese islands

Authorities on high alert

Hurricane Nuri is moving towards the eastern japanese islands near Tokyo, according to the Japanese Meteorological service.

Nuri, which is this season’s 20th typhoon is around 1,000 km south of Tokyo, in an area near the easternmost isles of Japan. It is moving at a north-northeasterly path at a speed of 20 km/h.

Typhoon Nuri is considered to be powerful since its gusts of wind can reach up to 162 km/h.

Japanese authorities have already warned of big waves and strong winds which are expected to hit the islands in the next few hours.
