“A Blast,” a new feature film by director Syllas Tzoumerkas, starring Angeliki Papoulia, Vasilis Doganis and Maria Filini, is scheduled to premiere at the 67th Locarno Film Festival at the beginning of August.

Filmed in Athens, Hamburg and Pieria, the movie was co-produced by film studios in Greece, Germany and the Netherlands.

Maria, played by Aggeliki Papoulia, spend her whole life as a loving mother and an obedient daughter and wife. Suddenly she goes rogue, determined to destroy everything in her path and take her life in her own hands.

“In the feverish years following the collapse of the Greek economy ‘A Blast’ talks about what it means to realize that everything you believed in is false and to finally decide to take action,” Tzoumerkas said in a director’s note.

“Unwilling to come to terms with her lost dignity, the lack of attention and her defeated love for life, Maria strikes back against herself, her past and her loved ones, her country and the perceptions of others regarding her sex, in a wild struggle for the truth that is inside and around her.”
