U.S. reiterates need for Greek debt relief

Lew and Tsakalotos in their first meeting since the September elections

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos met on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Lima, Peru. Lew’s spokesman said on Friday that the U.S. Treasury Secretary stated the importance of Europe following through on its commitment to put Greece’s debt on a sustainable path through debt relief.

Washington is closely monitoring Greece’s financial situation, and considers the implementation of reforms important for the Greek government.
