UN’s “right to work” tabled by 5 countries, including Greece

The 5 countries are concerned about the high unemployment rates in some member states

Greece, Mexico, Indonesia, Romania and Egypt have tabled a resolution, titled “Right to Work”, that marks the start of a serises of initiatives in the employment sector.

The resolution marks the first time in the history of the Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council that such an agreement – refering to the high unemployment rate in many countries – has been tabled. It was presented by Greece’s permanent representative ambassador Alexis Alexandris.

He underlined that “despite the significant work and the accumulated experience of the International Labor Organization in the sector, it would be appropriate for the Council to raise its awareness and consider the issue from the perspective of human rights.
