Citizens over 60 who have not been vaccinated rushed to the vaccination centres, after yesterday’s announcements by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that they would be fined 100 euros monthly if they did not get the jab.
Within 24 hours from the announcement of the mandatory vaccination to those over 60, 17,500 first-dose appointments were scheduled, compared to 2,600 per day, a number that is almost seven times higher.
The Prime Minister in his introductory statement on Tuesday, during the cabinet meeting, mandated vaccination for those over 60 years causing widespread reactions online. In case the unvaccinated do not make their appointment by January 16, 2021, then they would be fined 100 euros per month via an administrative fine certified through AADE. This income will go to a special fund to support the National Health System, he said.
