Varoufakis sees ‘a very nice day’ for Greece

Greek Finance Minister Y. Varoufakis believes that one of the positive factors of the deadlock is that it sends the message that Greece will “not sign an extension of the crisis”

Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis told radio station “Sto Kokkino” on Monday that he was still optimistic concerning negotiations despite Sunday’s deadlock.

“Today is a very nice day, we have finally come to the moment of clarity,’ he said. “Yesterday, Greece said enough is enough, and it is now the Europeans’ turn to make decisions.”

He added that things have cleared out for Greece. “Eurogroup’s message has been clear since the beginning; either you sign a memorandum or the country is flung to the rocks. We began a negotiation process. At last, we arrived at the point where Europe must decide whether it is interested in Europe of the people. By no means will we sign an extension of the crisis. We do not have a mandate from the Greek people to sign an agreement that will release the next tranche and continue the recession for an indefinite period,” he told the pro-SYRIZA news radio station.
