Traffic on the Athens-Corinth National Highway in the direction of Corinth has been restored as the works that were in progress at the Isthmus bridge after the accident with the tanker that occurred on Friday evening, were completed at dawn.

The decision for the demolition was made in the early hours of Saturday morning by the team of engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport who accompanied the Deputy Minister, Mr. Nikos Tahiao, who was at the site from the first hours. Already, the fire had been extinguished at 23:00.

From the inspection carried out by the engineers, they found that the bridge, which connects the old National Highway with the old Isthmus bridge, has stability problems due to the high thermal load from the fire and was not safe for vehicular traffic.
