Venizelos seeks an agreement on a national negotiations team

He asks PM Samaras for an initiative

A “dribble” of consensus, which refers directly to a pre-election game, was done by Evangelos Venizelos in the wake of the negative first ballot for the election of the President of the Republic and in view of the next two rounds.

PASOK’s president, speaking at the Coordinating Secretariat for the democratic bloc, essentially asked for an initiative by PM Antonis Samaras to agree with SYRIZA and other opposition forces on two axes.

-Firstly, the consensual election of the President of the Republic and

-Secondly, the establishment of a national negotiating team with the participation of all parties.

“The presidential majority must not be identified with the governing majority”, said Mr. Venizelos who implicitly argues in favor of defining a time for general elections. At the same time he underlined that “special purpose governments do not exist in a democracy. Only national purpose ones”.
