She blasts state for leaving athletes without support

Twin medal winner at the Rio 2016 Olympics, Anna Korakaki, partied her heart out in her home town of Drama, Thursday night. The 20-year-old gold and bronze winner in the 25m and 10m pistol events, respectively, left her guns in their holsters and put on her dancing shoes to swirl around to the tune of a classic Greek rembetiko song, ‘Dance of Evdokia’. Anna was surrounded by her loved ones who were clapping all the time while she danced, with her Dad and coach, Tasos Korakakis, setting the celebratory tone by opening a champagne. During her arrival in Drama the ‘golden’ girl of Greece received a heroes welcome with people packing the streets to get a glimpse of her. Anna sent a message to the Greek state underling that it should support only remember athletes after the bring home medals, but give them support before success comes. ‘We need infrastructure to attain success’, she said. Her bitterness to the official authorities and their decision to demolish the makeshift shooting range, a dilapidated shed she was training in, was illustrated by her request that no one from the Drama municipality attend the party in her honour. She had told reporters that the tearing down of the shanty was a surprise to her and she had not been informed of the decision by the local authorities. Overwhelmed by emotions, Anna told reporters that the only thing she wanted to do now was to celebrate with her fellow citizens from the town of Drama. ‘I feel perfect. I want to celebrate with all the people who supported me’, she said.
