PM Alexis Tsipras addresses SYRIZA Central Committee

“The current crisis shows the political deficit in Europe and its political weakness” he said

The refugee crisis shows the weaknesses of the European Union, said Prime Minister and leader of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras addressing SYRIZA Central Committee on Sunday.

“The current crisis shows the political deficit in Europe and its political weakness,” he said explaining that austerity policies have fed the monster of extreme right and fertilized the ground for the development of such ideas in the Central and Eastern European countries.

As he said, the crucial decision on deepening or widening dilemma was a risky decision, as it turned out, while he also referred to clash of ideas that will change the structure of Europe.

At the same time, he made special reference to Greece’s exit from Schengen zone clarifying that everyone has recognized that no one will be benefit from the “miserable debate on Schengen area dissolution”.

“We do not shake our finger at anyone, but we are opposed to the logic of closed borders,” Mr. Tsipras said stressing that “defending the values do not end where polls begin”.
