The fire that started yesterday morning in Fili and has grown to huge proportions reaching as far as Parnitha

The camera of the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli recorded the fire in Parnitha in a time-lapse video.

The footage shows the start and the progress of the forest fire in Parnitha, as seen by the camera of the National Observatory of Athens. The video starts on the morning of Tuesday 22/8 and runs until the early hours of Wednesday 23/8.

The battle with the flames that was fought throughout the night by strong ground firefighting forces in the large fire front that broke out yesterday (Tuesday) in the area of Fili in order to prevent the fire from heading towards the ridge of Parnitha, is continuing today. According to the Fire Brigade, the fire that broke out at noon on Tuesday in Fili on the outskirts of Parnitha is ongoing and is heading east towards Dardiza, Agios Ioannis the Russian, and Agia Paraskevi.

The fire that started yesterday morning in Fili and has grown to huge proportions reaching as far as Parnitha, has covered Athens in smoke. Many areas of Athens smell of burning, while the smoke has even covered the Acropolis, indicative of the size of the fire that has taken on the slopes of Parnitha.
