Who are the women who helped Vicky Stamati escape?

The police are investigating suspects involved in the escape of the former minister’s wife

Vicky Stamati is back at a mental facility while the woman believed to have helped her escape is now being questioned by the police along with her daughter.

Sources said she may be tried as an accomplice for aiding Stamati’s escape. It is believed that the suspect, a former nurse at the Dromokaitio psychiatric institution, aided the wife  of jailed former defense minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos who, along with her husband, is incarcerated after a conviction on money laundering.

The police began questioning the woman after Stamati recounted all the areas she had been to after leaving the institution.

The woman. who is reportedly an accomplice, and her daughter have been set free. The former employee admitted that she wanted to help Stamati, whom she saw as “a miserable woman”. The daughter claimed that she was not aware that Stamati was in their house until she saw news reports and recognized the face of the person on the news as the woman in their house.

Stamati asked both women to leave her outside a church in the Haidari district, where the psych ward is located, and where  police found her.

Authorities believe that the woman helped Stamati open the gate and are now investigating if she was paid for her services.

Police state that Stamati had makeup on and did not appear to have had a sleepless night or suffered at all when they picked her up at the church. She did not look like a person who had spent 30 hours aimlessly wandering the streets.

Crime labs have taken samples from a parked car outside the psychiatric facility to ascertain as to whether the female owner had been somehow involved in the escape. Investigations are also centered around the locked gate outside Stamati’s room.

A woman called “Nicky” visited Stamati hours prior to the escape, however, her name was not on the visitor’s list. Police are trying to find out whether the visitor had involvement in the escape.

There is a new lock outside Stamati’s gate and hospital officials are rumored to be looking for another facility where she can be transfered.

Meanwhile, the woman’s escape has cast  the spotlight onto her plight and the difficulty her young son faces as he is raised in a mountain village by his elderly grandparents, while both his parents are in prison. Stamati’s own deteriorating health has caused an outpouring of support recently.
