Men have plenty of names to discuss their masturbation, from wanking to jacking/jerking off or jizzing, but nowhere in the world is there a word specifically for the act of female masturbation… until now! The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU) decided that putting a name to the act of women touching themselves will help create a more egalitarian society as far as sexual freedom is concerned. The problem, however, was what to call it. Hence, a national competition was launched to establish the new word last November.

“If we don’t havea word for it then how can we even talk about it?” was the question that launched a nationwide campaign that was viewed as a juping point for talks on women’s sexuality.

The group was bombarded with suggestions that were shortlisted to 40 favorites that went to public vote. Klittra was the most popular, closely followed by pulla and runka.
