Worst fire in Cyprus’ history continues to burn

The fire has burned about 15,000 stremmas of woodland

The blaze continues to burn in Cyprus for fourth consecutive day despite the heroic efforts of firefighters and the assistance provided by other countries.

A huge force of firefighters are battling the blaze with the help of 20 aircrafts from Cyprus, Greece, Britain, Israel, France and Italy.

The situation is more difficult in the Solea region with the fire threatening the houses.

This wildfire is said to be one of the biggest in recent history and could yet be the worst ever depending on the final extent of the damage.

As of Tuesday, the fire has burned about 15,000 stremmas of woodland, while two fire fighters died when their truck overturned into a gully on Monday while fighting a large forest fire.
