XTERRA Championships at Lake Plastira on June 20

The typical distances of XTERRA are a 1.5km swim, 30km mountain bike, and a 10km trail run

Registrations are open for the XTERRA Greece Championship due to take place in Greece in June 20, 2015. The official off road triathlon event is taking place for the 3rd consecutive year at Lake Plastira. Athletes can choose between the official Full Distance Race and the Sprint Distance Race. Entry is possible for individuals and Team Relay in both races.

Courses are designed to have top pros finish in roughly two-and-a-half hours. Generally the swim comprises 10% of the total race time, the mountain bike 65%, and the run 25%.

TEAM Unlimited LLC, a Hawaii-based television events and marketing company, created the sport back in 1996. It started in Maui with a single race and evolved into the XTERRA World Tour with more than 100 races in 23 countries. There are several XTERRA Championship events, including 12 in Europe, that qualify the top performers in each age group to compete at the XTERRA World Championship in Maui. While it is true that some of the world’s best triathletes, mountain bikers, runners, and adventure racers compete in XTERRA, the sport is focused on much more than just elite racing.

Beyond the competition, XTERRA is about community, camaraderie, adventure, and promoting the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle among people of all ages.

As a result, at most of the events you’ll find stand-alone trail runs, bike races, kids races, swims, and relay team competitions in addition to the XTERRA.
