2016 Epidaurus Festival Programme

Ancient plays by the greats of theatre

This season’s summer ‘Epidaurus Theatrical Festival’ will kick off on Friday, July 1, with the theatrical play ‘Pluto’ by Aristophanes featuring Nikos Kimoulis, Giannis Bezos and Petros Philipidis. For the ancient theatre play aficionados, as well as those not so well versed in this genre of arts and culture, a visit, at least once in your life, to the ancient theatre of Epidaurus is a must. Even if the play you choose to see fails to live up to your expectations, simply being in the ancient theatre is truly a once in a lifetime experience that has to be lived. The energy, the feel and the magnificence of the site itself will more than compensate your visit. The programme of the ancient theatrical plays include:
July1 & 2: Aristophanes’s ‘Pluto’
July 8 & 9: Aeschylus’s ‘Oresteia’
July 15 & 16: Sophocles’s ‘Antigone’
