7 army recruits get 60 days prison for Albanian double-eagle symbol incident

Investigation into incident will continue

Seven army recruits in the Greek military were sentenced to 60 days in prison, after they had formed a pro-Albanian nationalistic symbol and posted a photo on social media. The 7 soldiers, who are of Albanian ethnic background and were recruits at the Mesolongi army bootcamp, caused an uproar following their hand sign of the double-eagle symbol which is associated with Albanian irredentism and nationalism. The sentences were handed down following a internal military investigation. Despite the sentences, the military prosecutor will continue to probe into the incident.
