The 24-year-old man arrested by the police on the charges of beating New Democracy’s MP Koumoutsakos on Thursday evening during the protest of Pontian Association of Greece in Syntagma square appeared in front the prosecutor.
Prosecutor decided the young man to be tried on November 19 and was set free.
The man denied the charges and claimed that he wanted to protect the Mr. Koumoutsakos and not to beat him.
However, police claim that the young man participated in an organized attack and he was trying to delay Mr. Koumoutsakos from leaving the site so as the other persons could beat him.
Police has identified the other four suspects for the attack of Mr. Koumoutsakos and is about to arrest them, as Minister of Public Order Nikos Toskas said. Moreover, according to police, the suspects are connected with Golden Dawn party.
The arrested man was in custody yesterday night and shortly after 10:30 this morning appeared before the prosecutor to defend himself. He appeared in a good mood and stressful and he made statements to the reporters, while he claimed that he wanted to help and protect Mr. Koumoutsakos and not to beat him.
