Athens News Agency and left.gr announce pension cuts, but protothema is accused of misinformation

Labour Minister lashed out at protothema.gr only for reporting that institutions asked for new pension cuts, while Athens News Agency and left.gr published the same information

Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos lashed out at Proto Thema newspaper and its online version protothema.gr accusing them of misinforming the public and denied publications according to which Greece’s lenders have asked for new pension cuts.

“Your newspaper and mainly its online version is the ‘flagship’ of misinformation,” he said during the press conference held on Friday along with Rural Development Minister Evangelos Apostolou and Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis aiming to de-escalate the tension caused in Greek society regarding the farmers’ tax and social security system reforms.

“Everything you write is a lie. There is not a single truth in what you write, ” Mr. Katrougalos said referring to the editors of protothema.gr who covered the press conference.

The Labour Minister attacked protothema.gr because in today’s article it says that institutions have asked for new pension cuts of up to 17% during yesterday’s teleconference held between Labour Ministry and representatives of Greece’s lenders.

It should be noted, though, that both Athens News Agency and SYRIZA’s semi-formal website left.gr have reported the new pension cuts that Institutions have asked.
