Borders of European (dis)Union in a divided world (see the Economist maps)

The world is a global village, but there are far too many walls!

The Economist writes that “Europe will soon have more physical barriers on its national borders than it did during the Cold War. This year’s refugee crisis, combined with Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia has seen governments plan and construct border walls and security fences across the mediterranean and eastern Europe… Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, 40 countries around the world have built fences against 64 of their neighbors.”

Here are the borders that have been constructed over the last decades, despite the celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall! 15 of the walls were built in 2015 alone, whereas 30 sprouted after the Twin Towers bombing.
