After a record-breaking 17 hours of talks, European Council President Donald Tusk reconvened the Euro Summit from a break with a “revised compromise proposal” on the table. Tusk announced a unanimous agreement for Greece that will be signed at around 7 p.m. on Monday.
“Euro summit has unanimously reached agreement. All ready to go for ESM program for Greece with serious reforms and financial support,” Tusk tweeted.
Belgian PM Charles Michel, Cyprus PM Nikos Christodoulides and Xavier Bettel were the first to Tweet that a deal had been reached.
The new agreement had the following thorns to overcome –
* a resistance of the IMF’s involvement in a bailout
* resistance to a eurozone demand that 50 bn euros of Greek assets should be handed over to an external fund
* reistance to the notion of a 5-year temporary Grexit for Greece.
