Celebrating car-free day

All drivers are encouraged to give up their cars for one day

More than 2000 cities and towns across Europe are expected to participate in this year’s European Mobility Week, from 16 to 22 September 2014.

Today all drivers are encouraged to give up their cars for one day and celebrate the car-free day participating in local events.

The theme of the 13th edition – ‘our streets, our choice’ – calls on people to re-evaluate the way they view the urban space they inhabit, and encourage them to reclaim it for the use of people, instead of cars. Towns and communities across Europe will organise a week of events and activities to raise awareness on the topic.

During the European Mobility Week, an annual action coordinated by a consortium backed by the European Commission, citizens in more than 2000 cities in 43 countries will be able to participate in sustainable commuting challenges, teleworking campaigns, flash mobs, car free day events, creative competitions, festivals and many more activities.
