Parts of an archaic cemetery of the 6th and 7th BC century were uncovered in the Greek island of Chios during an experimental research conducted in a plot in the area ‘psomi’.
The graves were discovered in the eastern part of the site and were found laminated and mounted in sea pebbles.

Amongst others, another Important and essential finding is the one of a horse burial, which is the first to comes to light in the northeastern Aegean Sea. The horse, which was placed in a position of rest, and in one piece was secured and transported to the maintenance laboratories of the Archaeological Museum of Chios.

The results of the excavation shows that this is the earliest organized cemetery to be revealed in the modern town of Chios and therefore provides valuable evidence for the historical topography of the ancient city.
