Children called to enter the 2nd Panhellenic Educational Robotics Comp

Budding young robotics champs get chance to shine as robotics takes off in Greece!

Children from all over Greece will have the opportunity to creatively develop their talents and scientific skills via the 2nd Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competition for elementary schoolchildren and the 1st Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competition for junior high-school children. Both events are organized by the WRO Hellas NGO with the support of COSMOTE, while under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs.

Following the great success of last year’s competition, in which more than 450 school teams participated from all over the country, this year the 2nd Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competition for elementary schoolchildren (aged 8-12) is organized with the topic “Our Galaxy” to be concluded in February 2016. This year, however, the same opportunity to acquaint themselves with robotics will also be given to older students (13-15 years-olds) via the 1st Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competition for junior high-school children. Its topic is “Journey to Antiquity” and it will be concluded in March 2016. The aim of both these competitions is –among others– to promote the new educational method STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) and its integration into the Greek teaching and educational system.

These Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competitions offer the opportunity to children and teachers from all 13 of the country’s prefectures to design and create a fully realized robotic project-model based on the topic of each competition, thus developing their talent, imagination, and scientific skills, as well as to work together as a team in order to solve any occurring problems. The project of each team, comprised of 3 to 6 elementary schoolchildren and 2 to 3 high-schoolers –respectively– will be assessed by a prestigious panel of expert scientists, based on the conception, planning, implementation and presentation of each idea, as well as the overall functioning of the Group.

Interested parties may register their participation at the webpage www.wrohellas.gr until 30.10.2016.

COSMOTE, supporting the organization of these educational roboticscompetitions for the second consecutive year, offers the participating teams in either competition 120 LEGO educational packs with instructions and material, to be distributed upon the responsibility of the Heads of Education in each prefecture to specific schools, picked on merit. Furthermore, COSMOTE will also provide the technology gifts to be presented to the winning teams at the finals. The support given to these competitions is part of the Corporate Responsibility activities the company has been undertaking to close the digital gap and to support both education and innovation. OTE TV will serve as the competitions’ Media sponsor.
