French-Greek film director and producer Costa-Gavras called Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras on Sunday to congratulate him for his party’s victory in Greece’s general elections on Sunday.

It is reminded that the acclaimed filmmaker who lives and works in France is known for films with overt political themes, most famously the fast-paced thriller, Z.

Among many awards, he has received an honorary doctorate from School of Film Studies at the University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
