Eight Greek universities included in the world’s top institutions

The University of Crete is the best among the Greek institutions

Eight Greek universities have been included in the 2019  Times Higher Education World University Rankings list. Of the eight Greek, the University of Crete is ranked first, while this year’s list includes the Democritus University of Thrace, at 1001+
The University of Crete maintains the rank of 351-400, which it held last year, followed by the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, which maintains the position of 501-600 and ranks 5th among the Greek universities. In third place among the Greek institutions is the University of the Aegean, holding a world ranking of 601-800, followed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, placed in the 601-800 spots, however, retreating, from second place last year, to 4th for 2019..
The Athens University of Economics and Business fell to 5th from 3rd spot last year and is ranked between 601-800 in the world ranking. The University of Ioannina is ranked 6th (from fourth) and fell in the world ranking from the positions 501-600 to 601-800. The University of Patras fell from the 601-800 ranks to 801-1000.

The 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings is the biggest comparison list to date, including more than 1,250 universities across the globeThe performance table is created by judging universities across all of their ‘core missions’ including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The adjudicators use 13 calibrated performance indicators to generate a comprehensive and balanced comparison of institutions which is used by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.
Oxford and Cambridge maintained their number one and two positions with reputable US institutions dominating the top 100 places in the list. The best ranked US university was Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) came in at 4th and California Institute of Technology at 5th.
Japan is the most represented country on the list with 103 universities compared to the UK’s 89. India has 49 Indian Universities in the list an increase on 42 universities being included in 2017.
