According to the Turkish pro-Erdogan newspaper ‘Star’, the eight rebel servicemen who have applied for political asylum in Greece, were part of the 40 member commando group that tried to assassinate Turkish President Erdogan at his resort in Marmaris. The newspaper claims the eight men, who landed in Alexandroupli, northern Greece in a Turkish military helicopter on Saturday, belong to the hardcore rebel group of commandos who were seen in a video encircling the hotel where Erdogan was staying at ready to kill the Turkish President. The information must be taken with a grain of salt, as it has not been corroborated by a second source. According to the newspaper, after the failed attempt to kill Erdogan, who had escaped the hotel moments before they arrived, the commandos fled to different locations, eight of them boarding the helicopter to Greece. Other commandos have fled to the mountains to escape reprisals by the Erdogan regime, the report claims.
