Eight Turkish military defectors being transferred to Athens

Lawyer accuses authorities of acting without informing her of her clients

The eight military officers that defected to Greece requesting political asylum during the failed coup attempt in Turkey last week are being transferred to Athens, according to information aired initially by Ant-1 TV. The news was confirmed by the defendants’ lawyer, Ilia Marinaki, who alleged neither her nor her clients had been informed of their transport to Athens. ‘It happened without anybody being informed. We do not know who exactly is transferring them and where they are being taken’, said Marinaiki.  ‘Without informing anyone at 9am the eight were taken and transported to Athens. It has not yet been disclosed by the services why they are being transferred, who is doing it and how’, said Marinaki. The eight defectors received a 2-month suspended prison sentence by the court of Alexandroupolis, Friday. They were being held in Kavala.
