Erdogan pillories rebel military officers (photos+video)

Turkish president humiliates rebel officers in show of strength

Newsroom July 18 07:48

After the failed military coup against his government by a faction of the military, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is pillorying the alleged masterminds behind the uprising. In a show of strength, Turkish authorities publicly ridiculed the former commender of the Turkish Airforce, Akin Ozturk, who is believed to be the leader of the coup, along with other pro-coup military personnel by parading them on Turkish television. Ozturk, along with other high ranking officers of the Turkish military had visible signs of physical violence while being shown on television. According to state news agency Anadolu, 37 officers of the military police and the Air Force were likely the organisers of the coup on July 15. Meanwhile, the commander of the Incirlik Air Base, Bekir Ercan Van and 11 other service members of the base were arrested by Turkish authorities, Sunday. The base, which is under NATO command, is used by the US Air Force and other allied forces in the fight against ISIS in Syria. Images emerging from Turkey over the past hours are shocking with suspected military officers and ordinary soldiers being humiliated and physically abused by the Turkish authorities and pro-Erdogan supporters.
