Euro barometer: Greeks fear unemployment

EU average rank immigration issue high

In a survey conducted by the Euro barometer from May 16 to 27, and published Friday by the European Commission 97 per cent of Greeks responded that the situation of the Greek economy is bad.

The EU average on the negative conditions of the economy stands just below 59 per cent, while 73 per cent of the Greek respondents saw their household finances worse compared to the 68 per cent EU average which considers their households in good economic shape.

Only 23 per cent of Greeks feel their economic conditions will improve over the next 12 months, a slight 9 per cent increase compared to six months before. According to the survey 20 per cent of Greeks believe employment will improve, compared to 23 per cent of the EU average.

More than half (54%) the Greeks asked replied that the economic crisis will deepen. 56 per cent Greeks consider unemployment the most significant issue, 51 per cent the economic crisis, compared to the EU on unemployment which stands at 42 per cent.

Finally, a large majority of Greeks  have a negative view on both EU and Greek institutions, as 73 per cent do not trust them.
