Arrivals in Brussels have begun as an emergency Eurogroup meeting is almost underway. The Greek PM’s decision for a referendum generated harsh criticism by most.
Jeroen Dijsselbloem said he was very negatively surprised by the early morning decision by the Greek government, since they have apparently rejected the last proposal on the table by the 3 Institutions (former Troika) representing creditors, and have proposed to Parliament to have a referendum. He also referred to negative advice given to the Greek people.
It is a sad decision for Greece because they have closed the door on further talks while the door was still open, in his mind. He also stated that the FinMins will hear from the Greek Minister today in theirmeeting and then talk about future consequences.
