Eurogroup: Reforms must be implemented

Problems remain regardless of elections

Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem made it clear, Friday that regardless of which party wins the September 20 elections in Greece, it will have to implement the agreement reached by the cash strapped country and its creditors. The Dutch Finance Minister added that there was no prospect of a hair-cut to the Greek public debt. Dijsselbloem did say, however, that a debt relief could be examined through an extension of payments and a reduction in interest rate payments. Commenting on the possible impact of the Greek elections on the implementation of the 3rd rescue program, he admitted that in the ‘worst case scenario’ there might be some consequences on the implementation of the agreed reforms. “The problems will not change through elections”, he said.
