Filis: Prime Minister is not poor, he is wealthy

He pays 10,000 – 17,000 per year for private schools, the minister said

Minister of Education Nikos Filis spoke to Real FM station and characterized Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras wealthy and privileged because his children go to private schools.

“Is he poor? The Prime Minister is not wealthy? What kind of question do you ask me? He is economically privileged. He earns 70,000-80,000 per year. His wife also works,” he said adding that a person with 60,000-70,000 income is not poor.

“He pays 7,000, 10,000 – 17,000 per year for private schools. I am not answering to the problems a wealthy family might have. It’s not minister’s job to interfere to family budgets. His job is to ensure that all children can have access to the best possible education”.
