German spokesperson says Quartet-Greece deal in right direction

Germany waits for final document before it goes to parliament

German government  spokesperson Steffen Seibert said the deal between Greece and the EU institutions was on the right track, adding however, that the Chancellor would be in a position to comment in greater detail by the end of next week, after looking at the actual document. Seibert stressed that the agreement produced substantial results saying that ‘if you consider where we started the past few months in the negotiations these are noteworthy results’. He recognized that the Greek government was ‘constructive and focused’ on the results during talks with the institutions, pointing that the negotiations took place in an atmosphere that had not been experienced over the past months. ‘The agreement is moving in the right direction’, he said. Seibert added that he did not know whether this meant the deal could come to the German parliament for a vote. Finally, he confirmed that Chancellor Merkel and Prime Minister Tsipras had a phone contact Monday, adding the tone of the conversation was not tense.
