German holiday makers are expected to visit Greece in record numbers in summer, according to representatives of the German Travel Association (DRV). Despite gloomy predictions by Greece’s tourism professionals that the industry would be feel the impact of the refugee crisis and increased taxes on hotels, a DVR spokesperson said bookings of Germans travelers to Greece would exceed last year’s record. According to the figures by DRV, Geramn tourists would stick with their favourite holiday destinations in Greece, Rhodes, Crete and Corfu, although a drop in arrivals is projected for the islands of Samos and Kos due to the refugee flows.
The findings by the German Consumer Research Institute also corroborate a rise in German bookings to Greece compared to last year’s tourist season. The increase is partly attributed to a fall in demand for Turkey due to the recent terrorist attacks, and especially in Constantinople. Bookings for Turkey have plummeted, according to Thomas Cook and German tour operators TUI.
