Greece received the award as the most popular destination for India during India’s top international tourism exhibition, Outbound Travel Market (OTM) 2020, which took place in Mumbai from 3 to 5 February.
The distinction is a significant one for Greece’s tourism industry, as it confirms the promising prospects for further development of inbound tourism from India, after a 30% increase in Indian tourist arrivals in 2019.
The Greek minister of tourism, Haris Theocharis made numerous contacts during the tourism expo in India strengthening the two countries’ relations in the field of tourism.
The ceremony was held on the final day of this year’s event with awards being handed out to companies, travel agencies and National Tourism Organisations for their contributions to the field.
The award was made by the Tourism Secretary of India, Yogendra Tripathi, while the Greek prize was received by the head of the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s (GNTO) Audiovisual and Production Department, Eleftheria Fili.
GNTO participated in the OTM 2020 with five co-exhibitors (HATTA, tourist agencies and hotel units) for another season to promote Greek tourism abroad.
