Greek Deputy Justice Minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos stated the European Commission had violated the European institutional acquis by requesting from the Greek government to intervene in favour of former ELSTAT head Andreas Georgiou, who is facing charges of falsifying economic statistics during his tenure in 2010.
