Addressing his party caucus Monday night, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras said ‘Indeed using a credit event in negotiations is nonsense’, responding to IMF Director, Christine Lagarde’s comment on the wikileaks revelations regarding the Funds negotiating tactics to pressure Greece to cave into to harsher fiscal measures. Tsipras attacked the IMF head on pointing out its role throughout the whole negotiating process with Greece. He stressed the Greek side was aware the IMF was intentionally and unreasonably dragging talks on, adding that ‘We shall not allow Greece to become the victim of a conflict between the IMF and EU’. He stressed that the review of the Greek program must close by April 22, while recognising the difficulty of such a task. Tsipras also accused the EU institutions on the matter, while he claimed major opposition party New Democracy had sided with the IMF.
