The latest international celebrity that has reportedly purchased a Greek isle is movie star Johnny Depp, according to a spokesman for a London-based real estate firm specializing in “deep-pocketed” property purchases.
Proto Organization Ltd spokesman Steven Taylor said the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star will arrive in Greece at the end of July to inspect his new holiday destination, which the former identified as “Stroggino”. Some reports claim “Stroggino” is the extreme SE Aegean islet of Stronghyle or Strongyle. However, a “Strongylo” rock isle is located just off the eastern Aegean island of Samos as well.
The silver screen “Willy Wonka” reportedly spent four million euros to buy the 200-square-meter islet. According to maps, Strongyle, adjacent to the populated isle of Kastellorizo, which hugs the southwest Asia Minor coast, extends over 900 meters; the other islet off Samos is closer to 200 square meters.
The report comes after Hollywood’s reigning “power couple” — Brangelina (Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie) — expressed an interest in buying an islet in the Ionian Sea, Taylor said.
Media reports this year claimed that the islet was Gaia, part of the Echinades chain in the Ionian, near the major islands of Cephallonia and Ithaca.
