US Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz on Sunday blasted Germany for undermining the European vision by showing a lack of solidarity towards Greece, as he charged.
“You cannot run a Eurozone without a basic modicum of solidarity”, the Columbia professor was quoted as saying by AFP.
He continued by pointing out that asking even more from Greece is ‘unconscionable’.
Stiglitz also criticized European leaders and the West for accusing Greece of failing to collect taxes when it was the tax systems supported by those same leaders, he claimed, that allowed tax evasion.
According to Oxfam International, tax rules allow large companies to avoid tax. “The West has created a framework for global tax avoidance”, he stated.
