Leftist icon Glezos to head up Popular Unity state deputies’ list

Manolis Glezos to participate with far-leftist SYRIZA breakaway party

Reports that Greek leftist icon Manolis Glezos will head up the newly formed Popular Unity party’s state deputies’ list are apparently proving true.

The full list of the 12 candidates must be filed by political parties by midnight on Wednesday.

State deputies are elected depending on the votes each party gains on a nationwide basis.

Glezos is a renowned WWII resistance figure for taking down the Swastika from atop the Acropolis in occupied Athens in 1941. The nonagenarian leftist was recently a MEP for SYRIZA, before taking the party to task for signing a third memorandum with international creditors.
