Mitsotakis for the European elections: The opposition’s only concern is how I will fall, not a governance proposal

The Prime Minister visited Agios Dimitrios – “There is no other governance proposal today, because we are talking about how we will change the country and their only concern is how Mitsotakis will fall.”

PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis today strolled through cafes and shops in Agios Dimitrios, where he spoke with residents and citizens.

As part of his tour ahead of the European elections in June, the Prime Minister in a relaxed atmosphere and mood, took pictures with people, while he also met with the mayor of the area, Stelios Mamalakis.

Mitsotakis also spoke at a local café, sending a message of rallying for the European elections. “From Agios Dimitrios we are sending a message of rallying and victory in view of the European elections on June 9.

Less than two months from the European elections and I want to share with you some very brief thoughts, why these European elections are of special importance and why they should not be treated with any slackness by Greek citizens and especially by our fellow citizens who supported New Democracy in the elections,” he said at first.

He continued: “First and foremost, the Greek people will be called upon to decide who and which MEPs will represent them in the European Parliament, in the great victory of the New Democracy, so that we can make our voice heard in Europe in a strong way.

We were the ones who told Europe that it must deal with the external dimension of the refugee issue.

We have many challenges after the European elections, what to do with our farmers, how to change the common agricultural policy, how to strengthen our defence more.”

“Let’s think about the next day after the European elections”, he said, “which political force you want to claim all this for the Greek citizens.

It is of great importance on the night of the European elections that the New Democracy with your vote is the strongest centre-right party in Europe.

It is clear that political conclusions will be drawn from the result of the European elections and I want there to be no doubt on the evening of June 9 that New Democracy will continue to be the dominant political force in the country, so that we can continue to implement important reforms with even greater speed for the benefit of every Greek woman and every Greek.”

Speaking for inflation, he underlined: “We will continue to support Greek society against the problem of inflation and high prices. We are not hiding behind our finger, it is the first problem that the Greek household faced. And we know that we are doing our best to address it. This is the government that raised the minimum wage, that gave for the first time increases to civil servants.”

Regarding the upgrade of the Greek economy’s outlook by Standard & Poor’s, the prime minister noted: “I want to express my satisfaction because yesterday Standard & Poor’s upgraded the outlook of the Greek economy and this, although our opponents received it with some irony, that it is something that is not of interest to the citizens.

There is no other proposal for governance today, because we are talking to you about how to change the country and their only concern is how to bring down Mitsotakis. This is not a proposal for governance.”

“We are concerned with the real problems, the others with their own internal problems. My issue is how in Greece we will talk about the importance of the European elections.

We will talk about ensuring political stability, it is of huge importance in this volatile international environment. That is why this ballot box is extremely important, we should not treat it with slackness, we should go together and rally together and on the evening of June 9 we should achieve another great victory”, he added.

He concluded: “On the morning of June 9, the ballot box will be empty and it will have to be filled with a lot of ND ballots and for that we need everyone’s help. Let us also fight this election with confidence and dignity.

If some people want to sink the political debate into toxicity and mud, we should not follow them. They tried it before the 2023 elections and we saw the result.”
